What are Discovery Courses?
We aspire to be a community of learners. Our Discovery Courses are offered in sessions in the fall and spring and include topics on parenting, finances, justice and digging deeper into the Bible. Build community while being a part of these courses as an individual or a community group.
Fall 2010 Discovery Courses
Welcome 101: Next session begins October 3
When you are ready to take the next step at LFC, Welcome 101 is the best way to learn why we do what we do. In this five-week class, led by our Pastoral Staff on Sunday evenings from 6-7:45pm, you’ll explore the Christian Faith, find out how to become a Lake Forest Ministry Partner (Member) and connect with others.

Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University
We’re offering two sessions of Financial Peace University this fall:
- Sunday nights from 6-7:45pm beginning September 12
- Thursday nights from 7-8:45pm beginning September 16 (with low-cost childcare)
This Biblically-based accountability class that will equip you to manage your resources. The class is taught by Dave Ramsey via DVD, followed by a small group discussion. The average family pays off $5300 of debt just during the 13 week course. You must register online by September 5 and then our coordinators will guide you in the purchase of your curriculum, which will cost around $100. Grow Closer / Serve More - Four Sunday nights beginning Sept 12 from 6-7pm
Join Mission Pastor Michael Flake as he discusses how joining the missio Dei inspires people to grow closer to God and to serve others more regularly. We will focus both on how we grow closer / serve more and how we inspire others to grow closer / serve more. This course will be meaningful to anyone looking to grow closer to God or serve others more. It will be especially meaningful to those fresh off a missio Dei trip or service opportunity. Register.
Discovering Baptism- September 26 or October 24 at 9:30am
Learn our views on baptism. This one-week class is a necessity for people interested in being baptized or having their child(ren) baptized. Register.
Loving Our Kids on Purpose
Six Sunday nights beginning October 3 from 6-7:30pm at the home of Dave and Beth Gregory (in Cornelius)
This is a fresh look at the age old role of parenting. Learn how to parent with the strategy of raising kids who know what their purpose is in God’s kingdom. Find out how to help your kids embrace their natural desire for independence in ways that won’t seem rebellious. As they lead the course, Ministry Partners Dave and Beth Gregory will mix a bit of their own parenting experience and strategies with the “Loving Our Kids On Purpose” DVD series. Parents of infants, toddlers and grade school students are urged to attend but parents with kids of any age will find useful information in this course.

Tangible Kingdom Primer
Nine Monday nights beginning September 20 from 7-9pm at the home of Courtney and Krista Roes (in Huntersville)
We talk a lot at LFC about living out the mission Dei. How can you work with God so that you are more accessible to people and more available for God daily? Learn how by walking with a group of others while becoming a group that’s focused on making a missional impact.
Join our missionaries on furlough, Courtney and Krista Roes, as they lead this nine-week course in their home. The group will study the book, “Tangible Kingdom Primer” (cost is $15 and the Roes will order a copy for you). Participants will need to be willing to do daily homework. Older teenagers are encouraged to participate with their parents. For more information, contact Courtney Roes.
